Nau mai, haere mai
Our day will commence at 8:45am on the Wednesday and we will be finished by 1pm on the Friday.
Pōwhiri
The pōwhiri experience is an opportunity to learn the tikanga and kawa of Te Tai Tokerau. Just like our Te Whare Tapu o Te Ngākau Māori we will begin our pōwhiri at Te Tomokanga and guide you through the process of the welcome. We are very excited about returning back to the marae for our MAC hui a tau kaupapa.
Waitangi Treaty Grounds
Explore the two contemporary museums, Te Rau Aroha Museum of the Price of Citizenship and Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, Treaty House, Te Whare Rūnanga and traditional Māori waka taua. This is an opportunity to learn of our founding documents, to tour the grounds and experience cultural performances.
Manea - Footprints of Kupe
Footprints of Kupe offers you a unique cultural encounter, journeying into Te Ao Māori, the Māori world.
Manea – Footprints of Kupe is a 75-minute multisensory journey of guided storytelling – through art, taonga (cultural treasures), film, performance, digital interaction, and the splendour of Hokianga’s natural surroundings.
The descendants of Kupe welcome you, as do the spirits of our ancestors. Enter Te Hokianga-nui-a-Kupe, our sacred cradle of tribal histories. Walk with us in the footprints of our ancestor – Kupe the intrepid, Kupe the voyager, Kupe the discoverer.
Whanaungatanga
A key whāinga matua (focus goal) for us is whanaungatanga (relationships) and the meaningful connections that we develop with one another. We would love to see you all attend this event to catch up and reconnect with whānau across Aotearoa.
Registration for our Waitangi Wānanga includes an invitation to join us for drinks and canapés on the first evening and also a ticket to our dinner at the Waitaha Event Centre, Copthorne Hotel on the second evening of our wānanga.
A day spent on at the Pā
On our second day of wānanga we will visit another marae. This is another opportunity to experience the pōwhiri tikanga and kawa of Te Tai Tokerau. This allows us to engage fully with the pōwhiri with the experience of the previous day. Our Te Tai Tokerau whānau are looking forward to sharing more kōrero ō te whenua (stories of the land) and the manaakitanga (hospitality) of the hau kāinga, local people.
Kaikōrero
In 2025 we will be hosting four longer Wānanga with the opportunity to discuss with speakers and other .
