PREORDER: Māmā & Me
Preorders close 25 June 2025 and are expected to be dispatched 9 July 2025.
Māmā and Me is a beautifully written read-aloud narrative by Te Ringakaha Tia-Ward that draws on emotion and connection to support rich, meaningful oral literacy. Centered on the relationship between a mokopuna and their grandmother, the story is designed to resonate deeply with readers and listeners alike.
This taonga supports the ākonga journey through Te Huarahi Ako, exploring each Ngākau in a culturally grounded, emotive way. It encourages deeper thinking and a shift toward a more wairua-based perspective, acknowledging that Te Ao Māori is a world of spirit and connection.
Māmā and Me is illustrated not with pictures, but through your imagination, allowing the reader’s to visualise the story in their own way and express on the pages of Māmā and Me. Each telling becomes personal, unique, and meaningful.
Māmā and Me can be adapted to suit different audiences, inviting every listener to step into the story and see themselves as the mokopuna — and to claim Māmā as their own. By teaching the tikanga and kawa around whāngai (adoption within Te Ao Māori), this story becomes a shared experience for all.
Use this resource, along with the power of imagination, to bring life and context to the Te Marae Wharenui of Te Whare Tapu o Te Ngākau Māori.
