Tēnā koutou e ngā rau rangatira mā, ngā pou tumuaki o Te Arahou - MAC,

The Future Sustainability of MAC

I am writing to you as foundational, dedicated, and committed participants in the Te Arahou MAC Kaupapa. Together, we are whānau on a kaupapa with a shared purpose: to ensure relevant, contextually authentic, and culturally affirming teaching and learning programmes. This includes the development, design, and publication of resources and materials that support the delivery of teaching and learning aimed at realising both the cultural and academic potential of Māori.

You may or may not be aware that our MAC Kaupapa is entering its final year of Ministry of Education Centrally Funded PLD support. Unfortunately, in the current climate, funding for initiatives like ours is often at risk, especially those with a strong Māori focus. This change will inevitably impact the way our kaupapa is delivered.

However, we are determined to ensure a sustainable future for MAC because we deeply value the transformative impact it has had on your kura, your personal and professional growth, and most importantly, the success and well-being of our tamariki. To this end, we are strategising to protect and grow this kaupapa so it can continue to thrive.

Introducing Te Arahou o Aotearoa Trust

As part of our strategy, we have established Te Arahou o Aotearoa Trust, a formal body designed to carry this kaupapa forward. Our vision is for this trust to provide the organisational infrastructure needed for MAC Facilitators to continue their vital mahi.

While much work remains to fully develop and operationalise the Trust, we are committed to building a sustainable future. Establishing the Trust requires funding to cover setup and administration costs.

To support this initiative, we are inviting you, as foundational and long-standing participants of the MAC Kaupapa, to become Founding Affiliates of Te Arahou o Aotearoa Trust.

How You Can Help

We are seeking subscriptions to the Te Arahou o Aotearoa Trust to support this kaupapa. A minimum contribution of $250 will enable you to become a Founding Affiliate and help us establish the trust. Your support will ensure the ongoing delivery of this invaluable work.

All contributions will be receipted. Please fill in the form below and an invoice will be sent.

For inquiries or further communication, feel free to contact me directly hoana@mac.ac.nz or email us at kiaora@tearahouoaotearoa.org.nz.

A Final Word

I feel somewhat whakamā asking for your support in this way, but I firmly believe in the value of our kaupapa and its potential to make a profound difference. Together, we can ensure that this important mahi continues to thrive and grow.

I wish you all the best as you race towards the finish line, and for a well-deserved rest, relaxation, rejuvenation, food and drink for the short time you will take yourself away from your leadership in our schools.

Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.
